Cob mailbox
I have a guest cottage behind my house, so I have two mailboxes. I took the box off the post and made a shallow foundation for stone. Jen and Donald were out of work friend so I hired them to help.
On top of foundation came masonry, then cob with some styrofoam packaging blocks in the middle to displace some cob. Mailboxes were just set right into the cob with flagstone hat.
Here it is before lime stucco.

The cubby in the middle is for the newspaper. Slots are open on the back so mail and paper can be retrieved from inside the yard. I had to put a rock in the newspaper cubby, though, or windtunnel blew it out.
Holes in the cob help it dry faster. Flagstone hat is the same technique I did on the cob wall seen in the background.

Side view. I was careful with the mailbox to make sure the hat extends over all of the cob. I used a level to check for this. There is no erosion at all from the weather, but the snowplow does occasionally slosh mud onto it.
