Mountain Park Environmental Center Fire Circle Benches
Because of historical funding, the design for benches had to be simplified so as to not impact the existing architecture. I designed a circle with split timbers and stone supports to sit on rubble trench foundation. Volunteers did the construction. To add some element with more of a creative statement, I added unglazed tiles to the design with images of local flora and fauna. Several advanced potters at CSU-Pueblo met with Vicky Hansen, pottery teacher, and I, to make the tiles which Vicky fired and I mortared in place.
Simple design.
Completed bench (volunteers opted for single split timber) with newly mortared tile.
